Montalbera is rooted in the Monferrato and Langhe areas and owned by the Morando family for 3 generations.
Since the 1980th Montalbera estate has been engaged in the cultivation of the rare and precious Indigenous grape variety Ruchè.
Today Montalbera, situated between the Monferrato and Langhe areas, is the leading winery with 115 ha In the Monferrato area and 15 ha in Langhe areas of the property vineyards working according to the SQNPI sustainability certification.
Nowadays the winery is run by the third generation Franco Morando and the total production counts around 650 000 bottles of the highest quality wines.

The wine portfolio comprises the Ruche di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG as 60% of its wine range, the Nizza DOCG 92 points from Kerin O’Keefer and 90 points from James Suckling, the Barbera d’Asti Superiore DOCG, the Grignolino d’Asti DOC, the Barolo DOCG Serralunga D’Alba 92 points from James Suckling, the Barbaresco DOCG, the Piemonte DOC Viognier, as well as the sparkling wines both in charmat and classical method wines, the sweet wines of Passito of Ruche and Moscato d’Asti DOCG. The wines have international recognition with the Laccento Ruche di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG as a flagship wine with five last years awarded with 3 Glasses of Gambero Rosso award and have just won 100 points from the best sommelier in Italy Luca Gardini.
