Stop 1 (The Rakovac Monastery)
Description: The Rakovac Monastery, an active women's monastery today. In the early decades of the 18th century, this monastery was a very active center for transcribing manuscripts, including the copying of Dušan's Code. The monastery church is dedicated to St. Cosmas and Damian and was one of the most beautiful churches built in the 16th century in Serbia. Throughout its history, it suffered several damages, most recently in a major fire in 2005, destroying monastery buildings, all the monastery's documentation, liturgical books, garments treasured for decades, furniture, crockery, and clothes. 'Everything that was the heart of Rakovac.'
