Herdade Do Perú
Highlights:
- We inherited Herdade de Perú from our aunt in 2016, so João Brito e Cunha decided to replant around 12 hectares of vines in a sustainable way.
- The entire vineyard is certified organic. No pesticides, insecticides or herbicides are used in the vineyard. Only 0-residue products are used.
- Organic matter from livestock is incorporated into the vineyard and stored for 12 months.
- In winter, the sheep enter the vineyard to eat the grass and at the same time manure it.
Winery Description:
The history of Herdade do Perú dates back to 1715, when the King of Portugal, João V and his wife Queen Maria Ana of Austria, visited the palace of António Cremer and his wife Catarina Sofia Cremer Van Zeller in the former ‘Sítio do Perum’, vineyard land with a wine press and later a winery.
The Cremer family came to Portugal at the invitation of the Marquis of Pombal, with the task and responsibility of managing the Gunpowder Kingdom. After the current owner's grandparents continued this long legacy in the last century, in 2017 he decided to replant vineyards and resume production in a sustainable way, in honor of this blessed land and the proud history of this estate and family.
The wines of Herdade do Perú could only live up to their name, their aromatic flavour being exclusive to this territory.
